Removal of Planetary Boundaries: Space & Virtual Economies

Current planetary boundaries are being reached by the global economy and resources are being overstretched. Individual countries' growth will be hindered by these boundaries as well as the global economy as a whole. Large countries with vast resources and large populations, have an economic advantage in the modern but still developing world. This does not mean that the world economy will come to an equilibrium that prevents further growth, because planetary boundaries have been reached. Energy can be unlimited from both renewable and nuclear power sources, it depends on investment, technology and scientific progress which will not be impeded. Material resources can be obtained from the ocean, mined on the Moon or captured asteroids.

Stratospheric ozone depletion boundary has been exceeded by 1990, but then reversed to within reasonable limits by present day. Existential dangers to the biosphere and biogeochemical flows having been identified are being addressed just as climate change is, and like ozone depletion before it this damage can be reversed. A sustainable world economy in the physical sense, can continue to produce GDP at a faster pace as products are recycled and new upgraded versions are made. The speed at which this happens can make the global economy grow due to increased technological advances, sophistication and utilitarian value of products, but new resources are not necessary. For instance, a world economy where everyone has a car and keeps it for 10 years, will be a smaller economy than the same population size, with that car replaced every 5 years and the materials recycled. Regardless, limits do exist and the world is heading towards them. Many of these limits are psychological and biological on the consumer side, the obesity pandemic and world population growth cannot indefinitely increase Earth's market demand for food products and services.

Population size constraints are removed as computing systems increase in power and as the virtual economy and virtual real estate are populated with AI professionals. Countries will be able to compete on an equal footing, and creativity and ideas will be the main drivers of economic growth, not resources, landmass or the size of the labor force. A good example of this is Estonia. A virtual labor force and consumer base is only limited by computing power, this on the other hand, has increased exponentially over the last few decades and will continue to grow, which means that even small nation states can increase the size of their AI professional labor force to become arbitrarily large, if there is market demand. That market demand is global. Moreover, computing data centers are not built by nation states but rather by multinational corporations across the entire world. The cyberspace and virtual real estate is thus a global domain with a server side business model that can be accessed by any human from any nation state globally, leveling the world economy's playing field. On top of that we have just entered the age of quantum computing, which has long been touted as a leap in computing power.

Present day American confrontational approach to regain military and conventional economy global hegemony is wrong and doomed to failure. The way for USA to remain competitive is to embrace and heavily invest in the virtual economy which is transnational and requires global free trade, while building domestic self sufficiency for the human population of USA. Energy independence in only the first step. Long term energy sustainability with the use of 100% renewable power is a necessary outcome, if the US economy is to successfully compete against China, EU, India, AU or EEU in a world of ever tighter planetary boundaries. USA cannot compete against EU, China, India or the African Union in population size, but can try to stay competitive by embracing the supra-national common market model. The most obvious pathway for the US economy to compete in the global markets is to take advantage of the absence of planetary constraints in the cyber-domain.

The US has correctly set out to privatize space access and build a space industry world market that is competitive and innovative. Besides the virtual economy of cyberspace and AI professionals removing planetary boundaries, the efforts to colonize the Moon and Mars when they prove fruitful, will remove Earth's resource restraints as space mining, production and settlements' population growth with the use of indigenous resources, creates both new markets and a new supply line to the world economy. The economic growth of the British Empire, the Spanish Empire or the Portuguese Empire depended on access to additional landmass, resources and manpower. The world economy has been globalized since around 1900 and the colonization model of economic expansion was put to a definitive end by two world wars. After the second of which, the world transitioned to a jigsaw puzzle of modern countries.
Colonization of uninhabited worlds does not preset a similar constraint nor require investment in space military resources, if the world economy is able to make this expansion through international effort with the use of multinational corporations or crowd funded self sustainable communities as opposed to individual nation states making territorial claims which they will have to defend militarily. - Marcin R. Goal 11 of SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES is not being met and there are no plans to retrofit existing real estate structures to make buildings into net-zero or energy producing with water recycling, rain water capture, food production or pollution control with indoor plants, sky lights, greenhouse facades or geothermal heating.

http://www.anthropocene.info/sdg11.php

I have addressed the issue of sustainable remodeling solutions by getting the Empire State Building to be renovated with the use of low energy consuming LED lighting and energy efficient windows, etc. This was supposed to serve as model that is implemented across ALL existing buildings that do not meet net-zero criteria.

The Revel Casino Resort which I named and instructed to be built, was also an example in sustainability, the building was to have solar powered windows and produce its own electricity. Instead Atlantic City built a nearby wind farm, but the point and the example remain valid.

Old brick buildings in New York City, could for instance have transparent windowed facades added that would create an air pocket which prevents the weathering of the building's brick work, pointing, stops street pollution from accruing on windows and the windows sills and keeps the temperature of the side of the building, especially the south facing side... warmer by creating an insulating air pocket. The facade could also be used to deploy solar photovoltaic panels and itself have sliding windows. Air conditioning can be solar powered and cool the entire facade air pocket in the summer to keep a predetermined temperature range. In New York City for instance, most buildings have fire escape stairs, this safety glass facade could be added to cover those as well. Gas use for cooking can be eliminated by simply transitioning to electricity powered stoves, a one time investment. Roofs, can also be made to improve ventilation, create sky lights and generate solar power. The projects can be made as incremental improvements to raise profitability of the real estate in question. The projects to not require that existing tenants move, or be inconvenienced.

Windows, roofs, lintels, sills and siding need regular replacement and maintenance in New York City's old buildings. These modernization opportunities can be undertaken to prevent weather and pollution damage, while making buildings into pollution free energy producers with better natural lighting and overall improvement in quality of living. Clearly it is a better business choice to make regular maintenance count as a capital improvement for the property, as this will raise its market and utilitarian value.

Existing subway tunnels in New York City can be made into hyperloop hops. I have proposed this for the S train which has a limited number of stops. I see no progress on this issue. Musk is digging for something like this in LA, but S train only needs the actual hardware and the vehicles: the power supply and the tunnel is already there for a high speed magnetic levitation transport solution, even if it isn't inside a vacuum tube.

https://therealdeal.com/2018/03/21/lets-say-elon-musks-hyperloop-actually-happens-heres-where-it-could-go-in-nyc/

I think Union Square to JFK hyperloop would be economically viable. Use existing L and A train routes with a stop at Broadway Junction. The loop can obviously go above ground like the A train. Power supply is already there. MTA could move higher profile passengers from downtown.

My luggage pickup service idea would be a good one to implement here as well. People could check in their luggage at the Union Square hyperloop station heading to JFK and just keep their carry on, before they get on the hyperloop. Then take the Air Train while their luggage is delivered to the appropriate gate.

Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production

"The food sector accounts for around 22% of total greenhouse gas emissions, largely from the conversion of forests into farmland"

Adding new arable land to a global economy that exhibits consistent population growth is necessary... if there are no other choices. Here are the other choices:

- indoor vertical farming
- increasing food production efficiency
- oceanic farming
- aquaculture
- hydroponic farming
- rooftop greenhouse farming
- reclamation of desert land into forests for carbon capture
- better management for reduction of food waste

The cost of American oil wars, which saw millions slaughtered in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Somalia and Venezuela descend into destitution and starvation, has reached $6 trillion dollars. Now imagine, if instead of going to war over oil that US has in abundance, this money were invested in education and green energy. USA would be energy independent by now, but it would also be self sustainable in energy and have patented renewable technologies which it could export across the world.

--“This is the most repressive government in modern Egyptian history.” That’s how Andrew Miller, a former US national security official, describes the regime of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, yet Egypt receives nearly $1.5B in US aid every year.--

USA and KSA are the regimes that murdered Michael Hastings and cut Jamal Khashoggi into pieces. Donald "kill their families" Trump idolizes Duterte who thrives on extrajudicial killings of opposition's mayors and threatens gov't auditors with kidnapping and torture for too closely scrutinizing his cooked books. The Pentagon and HUD stole TRILLIONS and gave bills to the US taxpayer for $500 a gallon gasoline! One year's theft amount to $125 billion just for the Pentagon. Who knows what HUD does? Duterte's message is actually the CIA message to Americans: look too close for the missing $21 trillion and you'll disappear. Egypt's regime sounds almost humane by comparison, at least they have open trials!

Anthropogenic global warming climate change heats the world ocean, much of it is miles below its surface and exchanges heat with the landmass. Loss of landmass ice affect all of Eurasia and North America, effective lifting a massive weight off the continents, which has geophysical effects on what is below. Besides that, there is hydrocarbon mining, with ever deeper diffing techniques with causes many earthquakes. The permafrost melt, also shift the ground, waves it and further releases massive amounts of gasses from the Earth. The mass of these gasses, like water ice, reduce the top-down pressure on the North American and Eurasian continents.

"Earth’s magnetic field, the basis for modern global navigation systems, is constantly in some state of flux. However, it now seems to be going haywire, pushing the North Pole closer to Siberia, and no one’s sure why.

The field changes as the molten metals surrounding the earth’s solid iron core churn and flow, creating electric currents and a corresponding magnetic field. As a result, the magnetic poles tend to shift slightly as a matter of course."

High speed rail and the vacuum tube magnetic levitation transportation systems do not need to rely on any navigation at all. You can't get lost. The routes are predetermined. The stops are known. Weather doesn't affect travel. Volcanic eruptions don't affect travel. Floods won't affect travel if tracks or the tube is elevated high enough. The systems can even be made earthquake proof. High enough the concrete pylons even protect the system from wild fires.

Why the wait?

https://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/050815/elon-musks-hyperloop-economically-feasible.asp

Air travel ban be disrupted by drones, weather and volcanic eruptions. Weather systems are getting increasingly volatile due to climate change. Planes are often delayed for days, leaving passengers stranded. The economic losses undergone by airlines, airport operators and passengers associated with disruptions and interruptions had an estimated loss of $26.6 billion in 2017... in the United States alone. USA is 16% of the global economy, thus the real economy loss can be extrapolated to be $166 billion from air travel disruptions alone, something that hyperloop systems will not exhibit. This $166 billion is money that was not spent by world's consumers because it was never generated as economic wealth... then there are fatalities associated with air crashes, lost aircraft, accidents and other things.
